                       Hambye Abbey:-


Hambye abbey is a Benedictine medieval    

monastery located within a few miles of the farmhouse. It lies in the valley of Sienne in a 

rural preserved environment. Today it is in 

the territory of the municipality of  Hambye.There are extensive bocage walks behind the abbey offering a unique perspective of the countryside and it's wildlife.

                      

                              CAEN :-

 

Caen is the capital of northern France's Lower Normandy region. It's city centre features the Château de Caen, a circa-1060 castle built by William the Conqueror. It stands on a hill flanked by the Romanesque abbeys of Saint-Étienne and Sainte-Trinité, which date from the same period. The multimedia museum Le Mémorial is devoted to WWII and the Battle of Normandy.

 

 

French produce & Vintage markets abound in the area, as well as wonderful walks through the boccage, cycle rides, fly-fishing, Beaches, and various tourist attractions locally & within a short distance.  

Manche, is proudly, a pesticide-free farming area. The area is particularly famous for it’s traditional restaurants specialising in Norman cuisine from locally-sourced , organic produce. Hambye Abbaye (5 miles) has guided tours of it's beautiful historical grounds and there is an award-winning restaurant conveniently situated nearby.

Within 1 hour: Mont St Michel, Caen, all D-day beaches & Memorial Museums, Bayeux, Carenten (karting) Normandy Tank Museum. 

Within 75 mins: Cherbourg (Cite de la mer), Ste Mere Eglise, Tatihou Island & ferry (see trip advisor).

                   Le Bocage - for walkers!

 

Normandy is noted for it's bocage, a dense chequerboard of small fields, surrounded by thick hedges and earth banks, with narrow sunken lanes running between them...pivotal in assisting the allies onward movement after the D-Day landings, and today just a sheer delight for walkers.

 

                        Cherbourg:-

 

Cherbourg is a port town with a seafaring history that is second to none.One of the first places that the Titanic visited on its fateful journey and quickly liberated after the Normandy Landings, Cherbourg has a rich and often tragic past. Both events are marked in outstanding museums in the city, with a brilliant Titanic exhibition in the famous Citè de la Mer ('City of the Sea'), which is also home to the incredible La Redoubtable, the world's largest submarine open to visitors.

Cherbourg is dotted with restaurants and cafes in typically French style.

The new owners, M and Mme Lebehot, have kept up

it's renowned tradition of refined cuisine, all from local

produce, and with excellent service.
